Winery Wednesday - 101 Best Wineries in America

You think I would have learned my lesson about other people's list after my Trash the List post earlier this year. But, I keep going back to lists because while other people's lists may not suit my EXACT tastes, I do enjoy reading them and giving some of their suggestions a try.

My mom sent me this list from MSN.com of the 101 Best Wineries in America and of course I was intrigued. The competitive side of me came out (yes, I'm competitive even with myself!) and I wanted to know how many I had either visited or at least tasted their wines.

It's a cool slideshow that takes you all the way from #101 to #1. Of course, California dominated this list. I was a little disappointed that only 2 wineries from Virginia made this list. Maybe I'm a bit biased but, we have some really awesome wineries here!

I was also disappointed in myself that I had only visited 3 of these wineries. Here are the ones I've been to:

#53 Barboursville Vineyards - Barboursville, VA

Barboursville is a beautiful winery in the heart of Virginia Wine Country. They've been around for decades and have really perfected the art of grape growing in Virginia. Their Cabernet Franc and Pinot Grigio are among my favorites that they offer. They also have a couple of sparkling wines - who doesn't love bubbles!? Check out their wine shop online too; depending on where you live, you may be able to bring some of their delicious wines to your doorstep.

#15 Linden Vineyards - Linden, VA

Linden Vineyards is located in the more northern part of the VA Appalachains about 65 miles West of Washington, DC. Their wines have a heavy French influence but also utilizes some lesser known regional grapes for a nice variety. Among those are a French-American hybrid vidal, petit manseng and norton, which was first cultivated in Virginia. My favorites from Linden are their Claret and Hardscrabble. The 2012 Hardscrabble is a blend of 4 different grapes that is aged in French Oak for 21 months. So good! They only ship to Virginia though so get out here and check them out.

#10 Robert Sinskey Vineyards - Napa Valley, CA

Robert Sinskey is an absolutely STUNNING vineyard in the beautiful Napa Valley region of California. This winery just happened to be one of the ones that my husband and I chose to visit on our trip out to California Wine Country. Trust me, it is no easy feat deciding which ones to go to and this one did not disappoint. 100% of the grapes they harvest are certified organic and they pride themselves on using soil-building and farming techniques to protect the land. Robert Sinskey is known for their reds which I was excited about. My favorites from here were their Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. Lucky for you, they do ship so go check out their wine shop!

How many of these wineries have YOU tried? Comment and let me know!

  1. Haven't been to any of these, but I'm interested in trying the Hardscrabble blend you mentioned!
